Whos brian jensen when you have the real 'beast' in goal?!
We went on a trip to barcombe hoping for a win. Franko was in charge of the warm up on a very soft and 'slightly hilly' pitch which we all agreed would make it a hard working scrappy game.
So, kick off came and Barcombe started off to be the brighter team in the game. We looked shakey and scared when we got the ball to feet and the Barcombe players countered on that when a dodgy back past from JIMMY BEALE left me stranded one on one with the striker, but don't worry Jimmy I saved the day! A couple more one on ones soon followed and a shot that hit my bar (but i knew it was missing) which I think made people realise that they were actually playing football today!! After that we had some really good chances with Ben Wade having a shot cleared off the line and saved by the keeper twice and was unfortunate not to get his first goal for the club still... Stef and Ben did well down the flanks and Jimmy and Joe started to boss the midfield.
half time 0-0
A strong team talk from Malc and Jimmy at half time gave us the spur we needed for the second half. We were alot tighter at the back with gilo, franko, jimmy and stu winning tackles and headers. Midfield started to work harder and started to create more space for each other to play the ball and the two strikers started to work together. Joe had to come off with cramp and super sub BigMac came on and made one important impact which changed the game. Some good football was being played which Dan laid off for Gilo to shank his shot into the bottom right of the goal, but in all fairness which we hate to admit, it was a good strike. But it doesn't make up for that penalty miss!!! So 1-0 up and looking strong with another great chance which Ben (Gary Glitter) Wroblewski hit wide. We battled hard, but Barcombe started to put the pressure on with several corners which we defended well and a shot deflected onto my post (which again i knew was going wide). Woody came on and battled well and finally the whistle went and the celebration started!
Great night saturday with the lads and a big thanks to Dan who organised it!
And don't worry, me and Cheryl are still going strong! |
