After a disappointing result saw us exit the cup last week, an enlarged squad (due to the Reserves not having a game) travelled to Danehill.
This enlargement did however cause us problems, with two players not going to get a game. We would like to thank Sam Hitchen and George Webber for their great sporting attitude and are sure that they will both be pushing for starting positions next week.
As soon as the game started we took the game to them. Jimmy Ferrar and Joe Rodemark bossed the midfield with Callum Broster and Michael Neale giving good service from the wide positions to our front line of Matt Fisher and Jack Pearson.
We dominated the first half but failed to convert many of our chances and led at half time thanks to a headed Matt Fisher goal after a good cross from Callum Broster (Matt later said that it had "Hurt his head"!) We didn't care and were pleased to be leading. We also knew that if we kept playing the way we had in the First Half that we would score more goals.
We continued from where we had left off in the first half and it wasn't long before we had our second goal. A jinking Matt Fisher run took him into the box where he was brought down. A clear penalty and half time substitute Dan McCaffery stepped up and slotted home coolly, sending the keeper the wrong way.
This seemed to spur us on and deflate them which led to more goals. Soon afterwards Matt Fisher had bagged his hat-trick and the match ball with two fine shots that capped a fine display.
We were still confident of getting more goals but nobody expected our next goal to come in the way it did. A Crunching tackle from Jimmy Ferrar who along with Joe had been dominating midfield, resulted in the ball cannoning off his foot and lobbing the goalie from 30 yards. Flukey? Maybe but he will say he meant it!
There was nothing flukey about his next goal, which came from the kick off. He intercepted a short back pass and took it round a couple of players before slotting past the goalie for our sixth. This great goal didn't go unnoticed with Cesc Fabregas executing it nearly as well as Jimmy did against Tottenham (Apologises to any Spurs fans)
This was how the game ended with the 6-0 scoreline seeming a fair result.
It was a great all-round team performance with a number of players worthy of getting MOM.
This was a great performance and we look foward to our next game. |
