By Jimmy Beale.

Under new management and our first, of many we hope, win for myself and Roy. We have really enjoyed our first couple of games in charge and although they have not been successful in terms of results until the weekend, it has been for us in a learning capacity. There have been some new recruits and promotions from the Colts which have added to last season's squad but there have been some casualties to University, traveling and old age. Saturday's team consisted of a wealth of youth and experience, Christian was excellent as a holding midfielder. Breaking up attacks and starting one's for ourselves, he was very a much a Ying to new boy Jimmy Farrer's Yang. Ali Eagles was given the armband as he had an extra responsibility of marshaling an unfamiliar backline, that consisted of Conor and close season additions Ben Hawley and Stuart Powell. Ali was very close to getting man of the match, his sweeping and organisation were first class (a young Jimmy Beale!?) and all of the back line were aggressive and assured. Stef, who had played in the game before, scored our only goal after Ben Wrobleski's effort was well saved by the goalkeeper. Steff picked up the piece's and with plenty to do, he lashed the ball into the top corner. It would be difficult to write about how many chances we (or Jimmy) missed as there were far too many but I will say it was a very confident performance and definitely a step in the right direction. Myself and Roy believe that we can really achieve something this year and we have made the point that if we can get a good start then we will build from there. Gooooooooooooooo Cuckfield!!!!! |
